Women's Competitive Team
Lee County Gymnastics Teams compete in both the USAG Junior Olympic Program and the NC Prep Optional Program. Women compete all four events at each meet: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam, and Floor Exercise. Each gymnast's competitive level is determined by the coaches and levels vary between the two programs. Lee County Gymnastics typically competes at 4 Compulsory meets in the fall season (September through December), and 4 Invitational meets in the winter season, gymnasts who achieve a preset score for their level qualify to compete at the State Meet.
All competitions group the gymnasts by level and age. Because of this, our gymnasts may compete at different times and even differing days. Meets are held on weekends only.
USAG Jr. Olympic Program. The USAG Jr. Olympic Program groups gymnasts by levels ranging from Level 3 to Elite. Levels 3.4.5 and 6 are compulsory levels. At these levels, gymnasts perform the same standardized routine with certain required skills for each level. Level 7 is an introduction to optional gymnastics with strict requirements like the compulsory levels, but with individual music and routines. Levels 8, 9 and 10 are optional levels where skills progress and music and routines are individually developed. Starting with Level 8 gymnasts may also qualify to compete at the regional level. North Carolina is part of Region 8, which also includes GA, FL, TN, AL, MS, and LS. At Levels 9 and 10, gymnasts may also qualify to compete at the national level. The Elite Level is the top level of gymnastics. Approximately 0.001% of all gymnasts compete at this level. Elite gymnasts may compete up to the national and international level and may represent the USA in most international competitions, including the Olympics.
NC Prep Optional Program The NC Prep Optional Program groups gymnasts into 3 levels: Rookie, Novice and Prep I. This program is held in the Optional (winter) season. Levels 7-10 of the USAG Jr. Olympic Program also compete at this time.
Prep Optional levels require some specific skills, but each gymnast selects her own music (with the coach's approval), and the coaches choreograph the routines. There is also a State Meet for gymnasts achieving a qualifying score. These competitions allow the gymnasts to showcase her personal strengths.
